Hello! Today we finish our study of 1 John by reading chapters 3 - 5. Not gonna lie, while I enjoyed the similar themes of the gospel of John I personally found today to be speaking in circles. A classic example of turning what could have been a sentence into a book. Yet, there is an expansion on the whole "love your neighbor" commandment that has existed throughout the whole canon. 1 John not only challenges us to love our neighbor but gives us the "how" and the "why" as well. I'll share a Bible Project video below on that topic. Let's get started!

Questions to Consider
Do you believe there are different "tiers" of love? In other words, is John (and Jesus) asking us to love our neighbors as we would our families?
What about this reading stood out to you? Why?
How can you apply this reading to your life?

This is another in the Bible Project's Word Study series which explains the real meaning of "love" according to the Christian faith. Enjoy!
Praying the Hymns
Our prayer for today is inspired by hymn 347 - Spirit Song. Ahhh, Spirit Song, possibly my favorite hymn. It was my first pastors favorite hymn and every time we sang it at conference you could see the emotion come across his face as he sang along to it. I think fondly of him as I lift up this hymn in prayer.
Oh let the Son of God enfold you
With His Spirit and His love
Let Him fill your heart and satisfy your soul
Oh let Him have those things that hold you
And His Spirit like a dove
Will descend upon your life and make you whole
[Chorus]
Jesus oh Jesus
Come and fill Your lambs
Jesus oh Jesus
Come and fill Your lambs
[Verse 2]
Oh come and sing the song of gladness
As your hearts are filled with joy
Lift your hands in sweet surrender to His name
Oh give Him all your tears and sadness
Give Him all your years of pain
And you'll enter into life in Jesus' name
[Chorus]
Jesus oh Jesus
Come and fill Your lambs
Jesus oh Jesus
Come and fill Your lambs
